Yesterday was the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, and this post should’ve run then.
JMS Books is proud to be a part of the Hop for Visibility, Awareness, and Equality. Part of the reason I started the company was to celebrate love in every color of the rainbow.
In the six years we’ve been in business, we’ve grown and modified our submission guidelines based on reader feedback, but one thing that has never changed is our dedication to telling stories of romance and love. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender … many of our best-selling titles embrace relationships that are only now being legalized and legitimatized by governments around the world.
It’s been a long journey from Stonewall to here, and there is still a steeper, farther path to go. Every time I get an email from a reader who thanks us for publishing a compassionate story about a loving LGBT relationship that gives hope for a brighter tomorrow, it makes me realize the power of change books have in this world. Together we can help ensure our children’s children aren’t classified and stigmatized by their gender or who they love.
I hope it happens in my lifetime. I’m waiting for the day when it no longer matters if a person is gay, lesbian, straight, whatever. When we see love as LOVE and embrace the miracle that it even exists at all in the brief moment we’re given on this planet.
